Spot Guide & Local Knowledge

Playa de Los Álamos, situated in Torremolinos just minutes from Malaga Airport, is the beating heart of kitesurfing on the Costa del Sol.

How the wind works in Los Álamos

The spot works with two main wind directions: 1. Poniente (West/Southwest): Blows side-shore from the right. In spring and summer it is reinforced by thermal heating, delivering reliable, warm, steady air between 14 and 20 knots. 2. Levante (East): Blows side-onshore from the left, building a lively Mediterranean chop with wave ramps ideal for jumping. DANGER: When North Terral blows from the mountains, it is violently gusty and offshore—never launch with Terral.

Unbeatable logistics and convenience

Los Álamos is arguably Spain’s most accessible kite spot. You can land at Malaga Airport (AGP) and be on the water in less than 10 minutes. The commuter train (Cercanías) stops at Los Álamos station, just a 5-minute walk from the sand.

Beach life and chiringuitos

Right in front of the active kite channel sits Chiringuito Playa—the venue that hosts Kite Track’s live HD webcam—offering cold beers, grilled sardines (espetos), and relaxed beach vibes. A large open dirt lot directly adjacent provides easy, hassle-free parking.

Safety precautions and local advice

In summer, kitesurfing is strictly confined to the official marked channel. Be mindful of the shorebreak at high tide when launching, and always yield to students taking lessons.
