Mar de Cristal and its adjacent sister beach of Islas Menores, nestled in the southern corner of the Mar Menor near Cabo de Palos, live up to their name ('Crystal Sea') with transparent, calm turquoise waters.
The Lebeche hotspot
Mar de Cristal is famous among Murcia’s kitesurfers as the ultimate spot when the Lebeche (Southwest) wind blows. Because the wind crosses the southern plains and hits the bay side-shore, it blows clean and strong while the coastline keeps the water glassy and flat.
Family-friendly resort ambiance
The area is a relaxed, upscale residential development with manicured palm promenades, quality tennis and paddle clubs, and beachside restaurants. It is an ideal holiday destination where non-kiting family members can swim in calm waters while you ride right in front of them.
Seabed and conditions
The bottom is fine, soft sand that stays shallow for 100 meters out. It is a fantastic arena for learning to foil or practicing unhooked freestyle tricks.
Safety precautions and local advice
In July and August, stay strictly within the buoyed nautical channel to avoid swimmer zones, and watch your lines around beach umbrellas during launch.
