Spot Guide & Local Knowledge

Known locally as 'El Campo de Fútbol' (The Football Pitch), this spot is located at the southern threshold of Los Lances Norte, directly behind Tarifa’s municipal sports ground. It is one of the most practical spots in Tarifa due to its immediate proximity to town and generous parking.

How the wind works here

The spot captures the full brunt of Atlantic Poniente winds blowing side-onshore. Because the beach is exceptionally wide here, setting up, self-launching, and landing is stress-free. With Levante, the wind blows side-offshore across the sand spit, creating super flat water close to the shore.

Strategic convenience & local regulations

For riders staying in Tarifa town who want to avoid highway traffic, this spot allows parking next to the stadium and walking to the beach in two minutes. Note that while a wooden boardwalk runs north towards the river, kitesurfing inside the Río Jara lagoon is strictly illegal—all riding is restricted to the open Atlantic beach.

Water conditions

At low tide, a wide expanse of compact sand creates shallow tide pools. As the tide pushes in, moderate Atlantic waves roll in, providing excellent ramps for jumping.

Safety precautions and local advice

With Levante, never venture out beyond 200 meters unless you have verified rescue boat coverage. With Poniente, watch out for beginner kite lessons congregating near the shoreline at high tide.
